Windows 11: move start menu taskbar icons to the left

How to

Don’t like the way Windows 11’s Start menu and taskbar are centered? Follow these steps to move the Start Menu and Taskbar icons to the left.

In Windows 11, many new changes have been made. These changes include both visual and under the hood changes. Besides the visually noticeable changes, Microsoft has added many new and exciting features such as dynamic refresh rates, snap layouts, the ability to run Android applications natively, and reduced size of Windows updates. All in all, Windows 11 is a fairly eventful upgrade as long as your system meets the Windows 11 requirements.

One of the first things almost everyone notices when they look at Windows 11 is that the taskbar is centered. The taskbar is centered and blends in with the redesigned Start menu, giving it a clean look. I like that the taskbar is centered. In Windows 10, we used third-party apps to center the taskbar icons. In Windows 11, that is not necessary and is built in.

However, not everyone likes a centered taskbar. The reason is that it confuses muscle memory and looks awkward. Fortunately, Microsoft has taken this into consideration and given us the option to move the Start menu and taskbar icons to the left. So if you don’t like the centered taskbar in Windows 11, just change one option and the Start menu and icons will move to the left.

This quick and simple guide will walk you through the process of moving the Start Menu and Taskbar icons to the left in Windows 11.

Moving the Start Menu and Taskbar Icons to the Left Side

To move the Taskbar and Start Menu icons to the left side in Windows 10, follow these steps.

  1. Open “Settings” using the Windows key + I shortcut.
  2. Select “Personalize” in the sidebar.
  3. Select “Taskbar” in the right pane.
  4. Click on the “Taskbar behavior” option.
  5. Select “Left” from the “Taskbar Alignment” pull-down menu.
  6. Exit the “Settings” application.
  7. This will move the “Start” menu and taskbar icons to the left.

The same procedure is described in more detail below.

First, launch the Windows 11 “Settings” application. To do so, press the “Windows key + I” key combination. Once the “Settings” app is launched, select “Personal Settings” from the sidebar. Next, select “Taskbar” in the right panel. Usually this option is located somewhere at the bottom of the main page.

Next, click on the “Taskbar Behavior” option to expand it. Next, select “Left” from the “Taskbar Alignment” pull-down menu. As soon as you change the setting, it will be automatically saved. So feel free to exit the “Settings” application.

That is all. Selecting “Left” will move the Start Menu and Taskbar icons to the left. The balance of the universe has now been restored.

If you want to center the taskbar icons, just select “Center” from the “Taskbar Alignment” drop-down menu and you are done.

Hope this helps.
