How to fix blurry images in the photos app on windows 10

How to

The Photos app can cause images to appear blurry under certain circumstances. Here is how to fix blurry images in the “Photos” app in Windows 10.

The “Photos” app is the default image browser in Windows 10. The “Photos” app has supported a variety of image formats since the beginning. Raw image support can be added to the Photos app if needed. In addition, the user interface is very good and always fast and responsive. For most Windows users, the Photos app works as intended. However, this is not true for everyone. That’s exactly what happened. Recently, all of a sudden, the Photos app in Windows 10 is showing blurry images.

I take a lot of screenshots every day, so I immediately knew the problem and found it very inconvenient. This is especially true for images that contain a lot of text . Please take a look at the screenshot I took of the “Photos” app when displaying an image that contains a lot of text. On the left is a screenshot of the Photos app and on the right is the actual image. As you can see by comparing the images, the image on the left is blurry and difficult to read. Click on the image to enlarge.

Fuzzy image on the left, original image on the right – click on image to enlarge.

After a little digging, I found that this is caused by file or cache corruption. File corruption can occur under certain circumstances, such as a system crash or power failure. The Photos app in Windows 10 is a good way to easily fix blurry images.

Fixing blurriness in the Photos app

Blurriness in the Photos app can be quickly fixed by resetting it. This is the same as resetting the Microsoft Store app. When you reset the Microsoft Store app, Windows will invalidate the cache, discard all settings, reinstall the app, and reset all app settings. This is essentially a clean install with no corrupt files or cache, which should fix the blurry images in the Photos app.

  1. Press Win+I to open the Settings app.
  2. Go to ” Apps -> Apps and Features “.
  3. In the right panel, find ” Microsoft Photos ” and click on it.
  4. Click on the link ” Advanced options “.
  5. Scroll down and click the ” Setup ” button on the “Reset” tab.
  6. A warning will appear, click ” Setup ” again.
  7. Windows will now reset the photo application.
  8. After resetting , a check mark will appear right next to the “Reset” button.

That’s it. From now on, you will never see blurry images in the “Photos” app.

Alternative to the Photos app

If the Photos app is not working properly, we recommend using IrfanView. IrfanView is an excellent open source image viewer for Windows that supports almost all image formats, including Raw images, and is faster and more responsive. Download IrfanView (32-bit) or IrfanView (64-bit) from the Microsoft Store. You can also download the plain win32 app here .

Hope this helps.
