However, if you do not have a recovery file, you will not be able to use the Windows recovery mode. In such cases, a Lenovo USB recovery drive can be created to restore or reinstall Windows.
Please have your laptop serial number ready before proceeding.
You can find the serial number on the bottom of the device or in the BIOS. You will also need a Lenovo account. If you do not have one, you can register it by checking your laptop.
Steps to Create a Lenovo USB Recovery Device
Creating a recovery device for your Lenovo laptop is relatively easy. In fact, Lenovo offers a simple first-party software called Digital Download Recovery Service (DDRS) that allows you to create a USB recovery device.
However, this process is not instantaneous. A digital download order is required. Once the order is submitted, Lenovo will create a recovery file for your specific computer or laptop. As mentioned earlier, you will need a device with a Lenovo serial number. You will need it for several steps.
- Go to Lenovo’s recovery page.
- Enter the serial number of your Lenovo laptop.
- Click the “Next” button.
- Select your language and country.
- Select your operating system.
- Agree to the terms and click “Next”.
- Sign in when prompted.
- Click the “Submit” button.
- Wait for the recovery file to be created.
- Plug in the USB drive (16GB or larger).
- Download the Lenovo USB Recovery Software.
- Double-click the downloaded exe file.
- Click “Download recovery file and create recovery USB key”.
- When prompted, log in to your Lenovo account.
- Select the recovery file and click “Next”.
- Select the download location.
- Click the “Download” button.
- When the download is complete, select your USB device from the list.
- Click “Next” to continue.
- Click “Yes” to continue.
- Click “No, Exit” to exit the process.
- You have now created a Lenovo USB recovery drive in Windows.
Lenovo will prompt you to sign in to your account if you have not already done so. You can also register a new account directly from this page. Fill in the fields and click the Submit button.
Once you submit your order, Lenovo will begin creating a digital USB file for you to recover upon download. This procedure may take some time (approximately 1-2 hours).
After 1-2 hours, connect a USB drive of at least 16 GB capacity. Make sure there is no critical data on this drive. The USB drive will be erased in the process of creating the recovery.
Next, download the Lenovo USB recovery software and double click on it. On the main screen select the option ” Download recovery files and create recovery USB key “.
Sign in to your Lenovo account when prompted. Fill in your details and click the Register button.
Once ready and complete, your digital download order will appear. Select your order details and click the Next button .
On this screen, select your download destination and click Download button . Make sure that there is at least 20 GB of free space at the download destination.
After the download is complete, select your USB device from the drop-down menu and click Next button.
When the message “USB Key Validated or USB Partition Created” appears, click the Yes button.
After clicking the Yes button, Lenovo USB recovery creator will start the USB recovery creation process.
After creating the USB drive, click the Yes button if you wish to delete the downloaded files. If you wish to save the downloaded files for recovery, click the ” No, Exit ” button to exit the recovery software
That is all. Simply plug the USB recovery device into your Lenovo laptop or PC and boot.
